this is november?
this is weird weather... it's almost december, and it's been in the fifties and raining all day. definitely not your typical late fall climate in maine, but i'll take it. i'm hoping the snow holds off for a little while longeri spent most of today either (a) painting the bathroom, (b) cleaning and organizing my room, or (c) eating chicken flavored ramen noodles with my sister. i think the bathroom is finally done... i'll take another look at it in the daylight tomorrow to make sure i didn't miss any spots. it's turned from a simple afternoon project into one that's been spread out over several days, but it looks pretty good and it's finished. woot
my room, however, is still in a state of horrendous disarray. most of my progress has been undiscernable to the human eye so far, but it's getting better. i'm moving some stuff around, weeding through my piles of junk and trying to discern what i really need and what i can get rid of/throw away. in some ways, i feel like i still haven't unpacked since i've been back from college, definitely not since camp and for sure not since the road trip. so there's lots left to do... i have WAY too much stuff. typical american. but i'm trying to cut down in case i ever do manage to find an affordable apartment, even though that'd be pretty much a miracle in this area. but just in case, i'm cutting down
liz stopped by around lunchtime, and she brought a couple packets of ramen noodles for us to feast on. there's a pack or two kicking around the house, but they're some weird flavor like "lime chili" or something like that. anyhow, nothing beats eating chicken flavored ramen on a rainy day. so we did, and it was a good time
tomorrow is "orientation/training" for u.p.s. and, i get my uniform. so i'm pretty excited about that.
my trusty pair of hiking boots have pretty much bit the dust due to 6+ years of heavy use and abuse. the road trip was their last hurrah, and they're in desperate need of replacement before the winter snows set in. fortunately i've got a bunch of coupons saved up for use at l.l.bean, so i'll be indulging myself in this pair for a not-rediculously-expensive price as soon as i get up to freeport. i could order them online (free shipping!), but a good pair of man-boots deserve to be picked up in person. so i shall
three cd's i just got thanks to abusing free online music store promotions ("you can download it for free!")... illinoise by sufjan stevens (pretty decent), gimme fiction by spoon (blech) and twin cinema by the new pornographers (fruity name, good cd). i'm trying to broaden my musical tastes, which i guess is sort of like that other time when i tried to make myself like mushrooms by eating them all the time... you end up sampling all sorts of weird and nasty stuff in a probably futile attempt to broaden your taste, but you do gain a better understanding of what you do and don't like and why. so that's my amazing analogy for the day...
and i still don't like mushrooms. and i probably never will. so i replaced that item on my list of 50 things to do before i die with "own a kayak." not only is it much more likely to occur, but i'd enjoy owning a kayak far more than i ever would eating mushrooms. and that's the end of that.
i actually have to get up early tomorrow... so i need to gotobedrightnow.

I can see you now....cheerily ringing doorbells and heaving packages onto porches. Watch out for mad dogs...
